Formerly Cultura Española, Culturas was founded in March of 2011. The founders, teachers with many years of experience, were eager to share with their skills and creative ideas with Ottawa. Soon after opening their doors, they implemented some ideas, such as an online service through which students could support their studies at home; an annual cultural recital, sponsor to other cultural events in Spanish in Ottawa, the making of the school’s own academic manual, the non-repetition of teachers in consecutive levels, being a centre for DELE (Spanish Language Official Certificate), among others.
Their first location, at the Byward Market in Ottawa, was welcomed by Ottawa. In a span of five years, more than 400 students passed by the Centre at that location. In 2018, the Centre re-located its operations to a bigger space: All Saints Centre at 10 Blackburn Street.
After seven years of existence, Culturas is proud to say the experience has been rewarding to the directors and the school’s staff. Their ideas continue, at full steam, always aiming at emerging the students into Spanish cultural contexts.
